Virginia Tech

Let's listen to a video that Cho had recoreded before he made the massacre

Virginia Tech: A Tribute

Who really caused this tragedy?? My world issue class today talked about virginia tech. Is Cho really at fault? My lecturer told us it takes two hands to clap and hence there must be something that made him do such a thing. In news reports, Cho was portraited as question mark boy and other hurtful nicknames. The US media regarded him as a korean immigrant but the fact that he was actually an asian american as he came to US since he was 8. Having spent so many years in US, are you still considered an immigrant? An article that she shown us states that asian in US are often "insignificant" as very few news reports mentioned about asian. Is US media a sterotypical arena? What we heard and watched from the news is what the media want us to know

Do we who how Cho really feel? Is he ostracize by his peer just because he is quiet? Did he try to seek help when he has any problems? Did anyone try to help him? All the questions are unanswered. Racism and sterotyping is always happening. What has caused us to think this way or even act this way. Just because we are yellow-skinned doesn't mean that we are from china.

My lecturer told us that her friend who was a Singaporean was driving when suddenly a group of blacks shouted across, "Go back to Korea". How she feel at that instant, i guessed everyone knows.

Cho being an asian american behave and speak like a typical american yet he is not treated equally as the rest. Possessing a gun is also very typical in america. What measures can the government do to prevent such massacre from happening?

it's a very interesting topic as now we were assigned to do a project on sterotyping and we had decided to go sterotyping on races in Singapore context. I am going to do malays sterotype? Any sterotypes that we can think of when we a malay act, speak or behave???

Question: Does advanced technology made us more afraid to expose our emotions and feelings to public as compared to the past? We see how one can behave when he/she chatted online but when comes face to face with another person, the behaviour is completely different. I am not trying to say this statement refers to everyone but this phenomenon is slowly increasing as the younger generation are exposed to advanced technology.
